The Embassy of the United Republic of Tanzania in the Republic of Italy was officially opened in 1972 and has since served as an active bridge in strengthening bilateral diplomatic relations between the two nations. It is entrusted with promoting friendship and cooperation between the governments and peoples of Tanzania and Italy across political, socio-economic, and cultural spheres.

In addition to its bilateral mandate, the Embassy engages in multilateral activities by representing Tanzania in the three United Nations-Rome-based Agencies (RBAs): Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO), International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), and World Food Programme (WFP).

The Embassy’s diplomatic responsibilities also extend to seven Balkan countries of accreditation: Albania, Bosnia‑Herzegovina, Croatia, North Macedonia, Malta, Montenegro, and Serbia. In these countries, the Embassy’s core function is to foster and advance dynamic bilateral relations for mutual benefit, particularly in areas such as trade, technology, agriculture, industrial development, education, and investment.
