It is an honour and a privilege to welcome you to the official webpage of the Embassy of the United Republic of Tanzania in Rome, Italy. This website is intended to serve as a valuable source of reliable information on the United Republic of Tanzania and the services provided by our Mission in Rome. Together with Italy, our Embassy also bridges Tanzania and seven Eastern European countries: Albania, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, North Macedonia, Malta, and Montenegro. Additionally, it represents Tanzania in the three United Nations-Rome-based Agencies (RBAs): Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO), International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), and World Food Programme (WFP).

Tanzania and Italy share a long-standing relationship rooted in development cooperation, trade, and cultural exchange. The two nations maintain warm and cooperative ties, working together through bilateral agreements and within international organisations to advance sustainable development, environmental protection, and regional stability. The partnership of our two countries reflects mutual respect and a shared commitment to strengthening economic opportunities, cultural understanding, and global cooperation.

Italy has been an important partner in Tanzania’s economic growth through investments and development programmes in areas such as agriculture and food security, defence, livestock and fisheries. Trade between the two countries includes Tanzanian exports like agricultural products and gemstones, while Italy supplies machinery, industrial equipment, and manufactured goods. Our social relationship is strengthened by educational exchange programmes, health services, and scientific collaborations between universities and research institutions.  Italy has been a key partner to Tanzania in archaeological missions, language programmes (Kiswahili and Italian), and initiatives that promote renewable energy and technological innovation.

Tanzania provides a unique and unforgettable tourism experience to its visitors. Among many natural attractions, it is the home of Kilimanjaro, the tallest mountain in Africa; the wonderful, clean beaches of Zanzibar; the great migration of over 1.5M wildebeest in Serengeti National Park; and the extraordinary view and ecosystem of the world’s largest intact, unfilled volcanic caldera of Ngorongoro Crater.  These attractions and many others make Tanzania one of the leading tourism destinations in Africa, attracting tourists from across the globe, of which nearly 60% come from Europe. Italy is the leading source of Tanzania tourism market in Europe, accounting for about 10% of all European tourists visiting the country annually.

On this website, you will find information about Tanzania and the services provided by our Embassy, such as passports, visas, and links to trade and investment opportunities available in Tanzania. You can reach the Embassy through the contacts provided on this website.

Karibuni Sana (you are warmly welcome) to Tanzania, the Haven of Peace and the Land of Kilimanjaro, Zanzibar, and Serengeti.

Ambassador Mbarouk Nassor Mbarouk
