On 21 January 2026, the Special Envoy on Women, Peace and Security of the African Union (AU), Ambassador Liberata Mulamula, paid a courtesy visit to the Embassy of the United Republic of Tanzania in Rome. Ambassador Mulamula was in Rome on official duties to attend a high-level meeting. During her visit to the Embassy, she met with H.E. Mbarouk Nassor Mbarouk, Ambassador of the United Republic of Tanzania to Italy, along with members of the Diplomatic Staff at the Embassy. Their talk focused on the role of AU Member States in advancing peace and security across the continent, with particular emphasis on recognising and strengthening the contributions of women in peacebuilding and in driving Africa’s socio-economic development.
Ambassador Mulamula is a distinguished Tanzanian diplomat and politician. Prior to her current role at the African Union in Ethiopia, she served as a Member of Parliament, Minister of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Ambassador to the United Nations in New York, High Commissioner to Canada, Ambassador to the United States of America, and Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation. She was also the first Executive Secretary of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (ICGLR), where she oversaw initiatives promoting peace, stability, and development across 11 countries in the region.
