PUBLIC NOTICE

Following the publication of the Inbound Travel Insurance Regulations for Foreign Visitors Entering Mainland Tanzania through Government Notice (GN) No. 256 of 2026, dated 4th September 2026, made under S.134A of the Insurance Act, Cap. 394, as amended through the Finance Act 2025, the Ministry of Finance wishes to inform the general public, international travellers, tourism stakeholders and all relevant institutions that the implementation of Inbound Travel Insurance for foreign nationals entering Mainland Tanzania will officially commence on 1st October 2026. 

As laid down in the legal framework, the general public is henceforth guided to observe the following:  

  1. The National Insurance Corporation (NIC) and the Zanzibar Insurance Corporation (ZIC) have been designated as the Inbound Travel Insurance service providers for Mainland Tanzania and Zanzibar, respectively.
  2. Foreign visitors entering the United Republic of Tanzania through Mainland Tanzania must obtain Travel Insurance from NIC, while foreign visitors entering through Zanzibar must obtain Inbound Travel Insurance from ZIC. In the event of an emergency occurring within the United Republic of Tanzania, the foreign visitor will be provided with services by the insurance provider from which the Inbound Travel Insurance was obtained, subject to the terms and conditions of the policy.
  3. The Inbound Travel Insurance will provide coverage against medical emergencies and will be valid for a period of up to ninety-two (92) days, at a premium of United States Dollars Forty-Four (USD 44) per visitor.
  4. International travellers are strongly advised to make the necessary arrangements and obtain the required Inbound Travel Insurance before travelling to Tanzania in order to facilitate entry procedures and avoid unnecessary inconvenience or delays upon arrival.
