On 23rd January 2026, the Embassy of the United Republic of Tanzania in Italy assumed the Chair of the African Regional Group (ARG) of the United Nations Rome-based Agencies (RBAs); the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO), International Fund for Agriculture Development (IFAD), and World Food Programme (WFP)

The ARG works to promote and safeguard the shared interests of the African region within these UN agencies by strengthening cooperation between African countries and these Agencies by advancing economic, scientific, technological, social, and cultural development across the continent. Prior to taking up the Chairmanship, Tanzania served as Vice‑Chair (January–December 2025) and Treasurer (January 2023–December 2025).

Upon assuming this role, H.E. Mbarouk Nassor Mbarouk, Ambassador of the United Republic of Tanzania to Italy and the Permanent Representative of Tanzania to the RBAs, expressed his gratitude to fellow Ambassadors and Permanent Representatives to RBAs from African countries and called for their continued support and collaboration in fulfilling the Group’s responsibilities and accelerating the achievement of its objectives.
